.22 Lee Enfield No8Mk1 - SOLD

.22 No8Mk1, early pattern converted from a No5 action by the Fazakerly factory in 1950, FTR’d at Enfield in 1970.   Very good order throughout with matching numbers to the action, bolt (re-numbered), forend and barrel.   Correct service sights and normal length butt.   Interesting museum identification disk fitted to the pistol grip marked with a code, the date 14th November ’74 and “1 Bulge” – the barrel has one small bulge approx 1/3 of the way up it, the MOD allow up to 3 bulges in their .22 trainers with a 4th requiring a re-barrel!   Despite the small bulge the rifle shoots excellently with no difference to ether accuracy or group size over my own, un-bulged, example.    £SOLD

Scope Bracket To Fit S&B L13A1 On An L42A1

And now for something very exciting! New made reproductions of the brackets that were “Locally Sourced” (meaning from the local machine shop) by several regiments to allow the fitment of the Schmidt & Bender L13A1 telescope, fitted at the time to the L96A1 sniper rifle, to the L42A1 sniper rifle in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s in place of the L1A1 telescope issued with the L42. There has, as I am sure you will all be aware, been much discussion, conjecture, opinion, romance and arguments surrounding the existence of these brackets originally ever since Mr. Skennerton made reference to them in his book. There are some who are very certain in their belief that they were never made and will insist that they know all that there is to know… There are others who will wax lyrical on how beloved the old L42 was that the original brackets were made to keep them in service long after obsolescence… Others will tell of secret squirrel exercises where it wouldn’t have been politically expedient to have “current” kit found… I have heard all points of view on this matter and I have met people in a real position to comment on their existence and they have produced original examples to view and handle therefore whatever the motives behind the production of the original brackets they exist – End Of!

Now, these brackets here are the fruit of a lot of hard work and are a faithful copy of an original example provided, even the cutter sweeps in the machining marks have been replicated by using a cutter of the same radius and approximating the revolutions per inch. They have been phosphated to a very close match to the original provided and they are frankly superb. They are built to accept 26mm tubes (as the original was) and they collimate well on L42’s and 4T’s with correctly fitted pads, they are supplied with thumb wheels as standard but may be supplied with allen screws (as has been noted on originals) as an alternative if requested. A limited number have been made and I have been asked to retail them for the maker, the price includes VAT at 20%. £430.00

.303 BSA No1Mk3* 1917 2535

.303 BSA No1Mk3*, Circa 1917. What a delightful SMLE, all matching and original throughout including its barrel (which is both numbered to the rifle and ’17 dated to match) which has a very good bore gauging at .3035”. Very desirable specification including windage adjustable rearsight (original, numbered to the rifle) and transitional forend (likewise). The rifle appears to have had very little service use and has been fitted with a BSA 9G rearsight on a A J Parker “standard” sight plate (the sight plate having been skilfully let into the forend) and a correct Parker Hale 215E forward target swivel also present indicating that this rifle has likely been used for target competitions during its life. One of the finest, most correct and original examples I have seen for many years. £1,650.00

.303 Lee Enfield 1945 No4Mk1T Sniper Rifle 2529

Lee Enfield No4Mk1T Sniper Rifle Circa 1945. A BSA coded production No4MK1T in outstanding, original and fully matching condition. All original components throughout and in original finish throughout with the barrel coded, numbered and dated to the rifle, bolt body, forend and butt likewise. Very good original barrel gauging at .3025”. Superb original timber throughout with all correct and original contractors and inspectors marks. Fine Rose Bros. telescope bracket with an absolutely stunning and very rare Vickers No32MK2/1 (Mk2 upgraded to Mk3 specification) in very fine, original condition – excellent optically and mechanically and still in its original finish (almost unheard of these days and when looking through the un-faffed with optics one cannot help but be impressed). Telescope and bracket contained within a very fine BE Ltd No8Mk1 round-cornered scope tin (1945 dated) and fitted with a fine original set of leather lens caps. Ensemble completed with a good No15 transit chest in original, tatty, condition. They do not come up like this very often – be quick as it won’t be here for long! £5,995.00

.303 Lee Enfield 1944 No4Mk1T Sniper Rifle 2528

.303 Lee Enfield No4Mk1T Sniper Rifle Circa 1944. A BSA coded production No4MK1T in very fine, original and essentially matching condition. Original bolt body (rare) and barrel (dated and numbered to the rifle) with very good bore gaging at .30225”, original matching numbered woodwork throughout and all small parts coded to wartime contractors I would expect to see on a rifle of this manufacture and conversion date. Rifle and furniture in original finish and appearing little used. Fitted with the rarest of all the No32 telescopes, a Vickers Mk2/1 (a Mk2 upgraded to Mk3 specification) in very good optical and mechanical condition (likely recently overhauled, outside well re-finished/painted) with a fine set of original leather lens caps fitted in a Rose Bros. telescope bracket numbered to the rifle (probable re-number). The rifle butt bearing the telescope number along with another (also a Vickers number) barred out – presumably this change occurred at the time of upgrade to Mk2/1, along with original contractors and inspection marks to the wrist. This is a very nice example with a highly collectable scope that would grace any collection. £4,500.00

.303 Lee Enfield No4Mk1/2T Sniper Rifle - SOLD

.303 Lee Enfield No4Mk1/2T Sniper Rifle, Factory Repaired at Ishapore in 1962. Here we have an original No4Mk1T, most likely built by BSA in 1945. It has been ‘out to India’ and factory repaired at Rifle Factory Ishapore in 1962, at which time it has had the hung trigger modification upgrading it to a Mk1/2 along with a new Barrel (near mint, gauging at .3025”). The action still bears the original inspection marks applied upon 4T conversion. The woodwork is very presentable walnut and the forend is target bedded, all done post service in my opinion, matching numbers to the rifle throughout and with a spurious ‘S51’ mark to the wrist…. Fitted with a desirable CT&S No32Mk3 telescope in good overall order with positive mechanicals and clear picture, though with some blurring to the edges of the sight picture indicative of lenses which have been polished in the past. A very presentable rifle with an interesting history, with a well-bedded forend and excellent barrel it should make a decent shooting rifle for not a lot of dosh. £SOLD

.303 Maltby No4Mk1T Sniper Rifle 2516

Maltby No4Mk1T 1941. This is one of the early Enfield converted No4T’s built before Holland & Holland were contracted to do the conversions consequently it does not have the generally accepted ‘No4T acceptance marks’ on the top of the wrist but does have Enfield acceptance marks on the left side of the receiver ring where I would expect to see them. These early 4T’s were originally stocked up in beech and would not have had the ‘T’ stamp to the left action wall, the ‘TR’ to the left butt socket or Holland & Holland’s ‘S51’ code under the wrist – this rifle has been subsequently marked up with these marks and has been re-stocked in Walnut woodwork. Original barrel still fitted with some wear (as expected) but bore gauging well at .30325”. Replacement bolt body fitted and numbered to match (possibly in service). Replacement woodwork as already mentioned numbered to match rifle and scope, cheek piece a modern reproduction. Early Kodak Ltd No32Mk1 telescope in very good cosmetic, optical and mechanical condition (appears recently overhauled) correct for the age of the rifle, Rose Brothers bracket in very good order with rifle number stamped as usual. All in all a good example of a very early No4T in very usable condition and at a fair price. £3,250

7.92mm Mauser K98 Double-Claw SS Sniper Rifle 2201

7.92mm Mauser K98 Double-Claw SS Sniper Rifle, Circa 1944. A very rare opportunity to own what is probably the most rarely encountered Mauser sniper variant – this rifle is coded to Steyr and was already destined for the SS as it does not have the standard final acceptance mark on the receiver ring and no serial number suffix then being converted to a Double-Claw sniper rifle at the SS Zentralzeugamt 2 facility – you can still make out the remains of the correct proof mark for an SS sniper on the receiver ring “SSZZA2”. Post WW2 this rifle found its way to Yugoslavia where it was re-finished and a new Yugoslavian serial number added to the stock however mercifully they kept all the original matching number components together making this a completely matching rifle (including the stock and hand guard which are numbered within the barrel channel). The bore is near mint and certainly the best I have seen on a K98 and even though re-finished the majority of its original acceptance and proof marks remain visible. The scope is a correct and original DOW+ example however it bears a different rifle number on the tube, the rings are correct and have the correct acceptance marks. Optically the telescope could do with a bit of a clean as there is a little bloom on the the lenses however mechanically and cosmetically it is very good and a very rare item in its own right. The rarity of this opportunity cannot be overplayed, we simply do not see original Mauser sniper rifles and one attributed to the SS is a real find indeed. £7,500.00

.303 Lee Enfield N04Mk1T Sniper Rifle 2517

BSA No4Mk1T 1944. A typical ‘production’ rifle converted by Holland & Holland, marked up in all the ways I would expect to see. Original bolt body and barrel (unusual and good!) with bore showing some wear as I would expect and gauging at .3035”. Woodwork looks to be, as far as I can tell, original and has been refinished during its life but thankfully without removing the inspectors/contractors marks. Very nice No32Mk3 CT&S scope in very good order throughout (appears recently overhauled) in a modern reproduction scope bracket (looks to be one of Roger Payne’s to me). A very decent and honest typical production No4T in highly usable and mostly original order. £3,995.00

.303 Lee Enfield No4Mk1T Trials Sniper Rifle - SOLD

Lee Enfield No4Mk1T Trials Rifle 1931. Once in a while something really interesting comes along – Originally a 1931 manufactured ‘B’ pattern No4Mk1 trials rifle then converted at Enfield as a ‘T’ Sniper trials rifle. These are very interesting rifles and this example still has its original Enfield inspectors marked front scope mounting pad fitted (usually replaced by now) and its action is covered in further inspection marks along with an ‘N’ acceptance mark indicating that it has been issued to the Navy at some point. Many parts of this rifle are Long Branch marked indicating that like a number of other noted Trials T’s it has been FTR’d at Long Branch late in the war, the barrel is ’45 dated and long branch marked with a mint bore gauging at .30225”. The action body has not been machined like many to fit a Mk1 rearsight so a 4-click ball rearsight could be refitted if sourced. An absolutely superb No32Mk3 telescope is fitted to the rifle in a Canadian marked bracket (another indication of LB FTR) in superb optical, mechanical and cosmetic condition fitted with an early pattern set of leather lens caps with a service tag bearing the telescope number. The scope bracket is numbered to the rifle and the telescope number is not applied to the wrist which would again be typical for a rifle FTR’d at Long Branch. With the rifle is a very decent No8Mk2 canvas scope cover (lid disintegrating as usual) with both the rifle serial number and scope serial number upon it (and they look to have been on it for a very long time…), also an excellent Scout Regiment spotting scope with near perfect case and carrying strap, correct cleaning kit, tin of dubbing, pamphlets No44 and 46 and a tatty but very sound and original, early, No15 transit chest. A very rare opportunity to own a real piece of history, one of the original No4 trials rifles later chosen to be one of the Sniper trials rifles then an issue Sniper rifle, a must for any serious Enfield or Sniper collector…. £SOLD

.303 Savage No4Mk1T Sniper Rifle - SOLD

Savage No4Mk1T 1941. Very presentable looking rifle, good bore gauging at .3035” and barrel numbered to the rifle and with Savage markings, Savage parts throughout with the exception of the foresight protector and front band (both Long Branch). Nice Kodak Ltd No32Mk1 telescope in lovely cosmetic and mechanical condition but with some blurring at the edges of the lenses indicating that they have been over-polished in a past overhaul (this does not affect the sight picture as the centre of the lenses are clear and in focus), Dalgliesh telescope bracket with the rifle number applied, the bracket has had the top caps replaced in its life in my opinion. Action has a ‘D6E’ inspectors mark on the butt socket which it should not have (it would have been an early H&H conversion before these inspectors marks were used) and it looks to me to be engraved rather than stamped and the S51 mark is too fresh under the wrist in my opinion which makes me believe that this rifle is either an original Sniper barrel/action/bolt that has been very nicely re-built by someone who did not realise that it should not have all the ‘usual’ markings (and set about applying them…) or it is a rifle built up as a reproduction Savage Sniper – I have priced it as the latter and it would cost more than the asking price to build one to the same standard. £SOLD

7.62mm Enfield L42A1 Sniper Rifle - SOLD

7.62mm Enfield L42A1 Sniper Rifle, Circa 1971. Originally a BSA coded No4Mk1 built in 1944 then converted by Holland & Holland to a .303 No4Mk1T Sniper Rifle seeing service din WW2 then selected as being suitable for conversion at Enfield to L42A1 7.62mm Sniper Rifle. A very pleasing rifle bearing all the typical markings one would expect and with matching numbers to the action, forend, telescope bracket (two earlier 4T numbers present but barred-out in the usual manner) and bolt body (typical replacement probably during conversion to L42). Walnut long butt (probably replaced in service) with cheek piece and rifle number stamped into the head under the butt socket along with the present telescope number stuck into the top of the wrist. Rose Brothers coded telescope bracket with an optically and mechanically very good L1A1 (converted CT&S No32Mk3, appearing recently overhauled) fitted with an original set of appearing unissued lens covers still with visible NSN number. The bore condition is very good and it has a chordal barrel fitted (these typically make the best long range shooters…). Complete with transit chest, very fine No8 scope tin, excellent scout regiment spotting scope & carry case, cleaning kit, chamber stick, sniper pocket book sheets and a selection of slings. £SOLD

.303 Enfield P13 Trials Rifle 2285

.303 Enfield Pattern 1913 Trials Rifle. Wow, when did you last see a P13 on the market?? This example is mentioned in the original ammunition trials paperwork I am told (I have not had the chance to read it all as yet..) and is matching (original) numbers to the action, bolt and stock – the original barrel having been changed for a .303 example (also numbered to the rifle, with no other rifle numbers) possibly during the life of the trials. Very good bore with crisp rifling gauging at .30275”. A pretty much unrepeatable opportunity. £12,500.00

.303 No1Mk6 Trials Rifle 1518

.303 No1Mk6 Trials Rifle. A very unusual opportunity to acquire a No1Mk6 that never got to be built up for trials but was finished as an issue rifle in 1941 at Fazakerly in the days following Dunkirk when we were desperate for functioning rifles. Correct trials action with SBN8 stamped under the wrist for Steel Batch Number 8, the magazine cut-off slot has never been cut and the safety relief has never been finished but the Mk6 action side is unmistakeable. Early production woodwork and mint barrel gauging at .302”. I have never seen another and an absolute ‘must’ for any Enfield collector. £3,995.00

8mm Lebel 1886/M93 2200

8mm Lebel Model 1886/M93, Circa 1915. Manufactured at the Tulle state factory in 1915 making this one of the last Lebel rifles to be produced before production ceased in 1916. Very rarely encountered in the UK with those that are seen being in mostly relic condition this example is in fair overall order throughout and has matching numbers to the barrel, bolt, action, stock and forend (feint). The barrel is also fair (actually the best Lebel barrel I have encountered) with very strong rifling although with some corrosion. Plenty of small armourers repairs to the stock and forend however they are original to the rifle and all add t its history. A very rare opportunity to acquire what is probably the rarest WW1 issue rifle in shootable condition. £1,850.00

.25-06 Sauer 202 1787

.25-06 Sauer 202. Fantastic rifles these, in my opinion the most delightful action you can have on a sporting rifle with a well thought out safety arrangement, delightfully slick bolt operation, target quality set trigger (single, push forward to set) and about the most ergonomically proportioned stock and forend grip. Mint bore both looking and gauging as new, open sights and set of Apel swing-off mounts (not pictured) in 26mm/1” along with top quality Safariland leather sling. £1,350.00

.243 Tikka M595 Deluxe SRC78

.243 Tikka M595 Deluxe. These are superb quality rifles and the rifle builders action of choice in many instances. This example has a mint bore both looking and gauging as new and has rosewood tipped and capped stock. Handling marks here and there showing that it has been carried but apparently not shot a lot. £725.00

Rifles – Full Bore, Target and Gallery

All centerfire rifles offered for sale are checked for correct headspace and unless otherwise stated will all gauge within the bore tolerance required when new. I do not just peer up the barrel and think “it’s shiny and has twisty bits, so it must be OK”.

.44-40 Uberti 1866 941

.44-40 Uberti Reproduction of the famous Winchester Model 1866 “Yellowboy” Sporting Rifle.   In very little used condition with a mint bore and tight mechanicals I very much doubt this Uberti has been used.   They really are cracking gallery rifles and this is, in my opinion, the best caliber to have one in!   Always a talking point at the range, people with Winchester 94’2 and Marlins can never believe how smooth the action is!   £850.00

Antique and Deactivated Rifles

On this page you will find details of any antique and deactivated rifles that I may have for sale.   We consider the term “Antique” to apply to any rifle that falls under Section 58(2) of the Firearms Act allowing it to be held as a curiosity or ornament without the need for a Firearms License.   Any customer wishing to fire any antique rifle will of course need to be placed on certificate before attempting to acquire or manufacture ammunition for it.

.295/250 Jeffery Rook Rifle OC

.295/250 Rook & Rabbit Rifle by Jeffery. In very fine order throughout with plenty of original colour, very crisp stock and tight action. The bore is as new and I suspect it may have been lined at some point in its original calibre as I have never seen such a crisp bore on a Rook Rifle and it has been proofed for nitro at Birmingham Proof House in 2001 making this an excellent choice for anyone wishing to put it on certificate and use it in historic competitions. £1,450.00

.62 Ketland Baker Rifle RS1BR

.62 Baker Rifle by Ketland, Circa 1808. A bit of a mystery these bakers, often attributed to the Ayrshire Rifle Brigade due to the “A.R.” engraved on the top tang of the butt plate (and mentioned in Howard Blackmore’s British Military Firearms book on page 119) however this attribution is doubted by many. Typical early pattern lock marked “W Ketland” indicating it to be an early example, Tower private proof marks to the barrel but War Office inspectors marks to lock, stock and barrel – as you would expect to see on an Ordnance issue Baker. Very good bore with strong rifling and little signs of use or corrosion. Very good original black leather sling with brass buckle – all in all a very pleasing Baker rifle indeed. £POA
